Tastes like Christmas
Run down of the weekend:
Oktoberfest. Not much to say on that. Pulled into La Crosse at about 1:30 AM, got up about 6:30 AM and went down to the parade grounds to push T-Shirts for B & B Graphics, my relative's company. It was alright but there was less free beer handed to me, the beer that WAS handed to me was fuckin' PBR, and there were zero drunken propositions I was willing to take up. Last time I did this, a few years back, there was more of those criteria met but I was also underage and had a girlfriend so I couldn't fully appreciate them. Still a decent time and decent cash for 2 hours of walking up and down a mile and a half stretch. Couldn't get a hold of the 2-3 people I was attempting to get a hold of until I had decided La Crosse partying was bust and headed back into Madison- so that was kind of lame.
Sat night got back into Madison and hit up the bars with Chris, Alex and Adam. Fun times there. It's been too long for bar-hopping for me, I've been way too broke. I made it a point to wear a novelty shirt I had been selling hours earlier (3/4-sleeve baseball tee that said "FukenFestin": Not a shirt I would generally ever wear) which, combined with a hair cut and shave I felt fairly confident I had a passing "Oliver" mode going for me. Led to 2 numbers and 3 drinks handed my way. What the hell? I'm going to douchebag it up every night.
Post-bar was a dorm "party". At the dorms. With people who inhabit the dorms. I spent the hour or so I was there off to the side commenting on this, followed up by a conversation with Adam about how I could get away with the running commentary and no one was intelligent enough to be the wiser. All I've got to say is that "Walter and Perry" succesfully threw me for a loop and I'm still a bit perturbed. As I'm pretty damn biblical, Sunday was a day of rest (that's Sunday, right? I don't really pay attention). Drove back up here Monday morning and found out that I'm so good at MySpacing I get a raise on that shit. Actually ignore that- I apparently don't know this yet.
Asides:
Apparently I'm both cool and new. MySpace says so. I wouldn't have known this except for the flooding of messages and friend requests from people I don't know. By flooding I mean 3. Ok- more messages than that but 3 "denied" friend requests. I don't care about Ohio. I really don't. In fact- nobody does. Move states and we'll see where we stand.
Lastly just a few notes on what's currently rotting my brain. Arrested Development is as on as ever this season. Best written show on television. Lost is holding up well, I'm still about as intrigued as I ever was. Scrubs really needs to start soon but from what I hear I'll be holding my breath until January. That's a long time. I might die in the process. Smallville had a pretty damn good season opener, I've gotta say. Last season they tried to break out of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer template and it really started to become unbearably bad. I still think Lois Lane has no fucking right being a character on the show but they don't seem to be doing anything that will alter the dynamic of the established future so I can let it slide. And lastly The OC for some reason has stopped being a show that plugs good indie bands and pokes fun at the Abercrombie crowd to a show that loves the cock. It's becoming upsetting. It's a guilty pleasure show and I probably shouldn't expect too much- but why ditch the comic/game/movie references and replace them with fucking designer handbag references? As easy as it is to knock the show the first two seasons I could still successfully argue their merit. This one- while not *completely* devoid of good moments- is giving me a harder time.
I'm not really sure how someone who hasn't actively watched television in nearly 8 years gets hooked on as many shows as I'm hooked on. Huh. Anyway- this Thursday I think I'll worry about what really counts and skip out on both OC and Smallville. Because they're not beer. Or pizza. Or the combination of the two. Hope I'm not the only one to notice this.
