Pixels, Letters, Emulsified Frames and Harmonics
This the second blog post within an hour or so. Kind of sad. I lost interest before.
Pixels: I was supposed to pick up a new car yesterday but it fell through at the last second. Alright in my eyes though, it was an 85 Skylark, or something to that effect. Since I didn't have to drive to Stoughton because there was no longer a car to get I picked up We Love Katamari and Soul Calibur III. Katamari is as good as ever, although me and Mike threw down on multiplayer and that is hard as hell. I'm not sure how the logistics work because you're both controlling the same ball and trying to navigate in whatever direction you feel you should. Soul Calibur III is as good as previous installments and looks like it's gong to have a lot of replay value. The character creation is decent and I basically made Solid Snake from the get-go, complete with CQC. Apparently I *can* get back into video games, we'll see if I keep the trend going...
Letters: Fake. Liar. Cheat. is still Fight Club. It's good- don't get me wrong, but the guy obviously was going for that. The main character is Jack the Narrator, the girl is totally Marla Singer. They take low-key shots at the corporate big world and gain an unwanted cult following, emulating their moves. His dad has left when he was a child to go start other families. The guy comes home at some point to find police outside of his now destroyed apartment. Stylistically and content-wise it IS a clone of Fight Club. But I'm enjoying it. 5 years ago, when it came out, I probably would have just thought rip-off. I should be finishing it up within a day or so.
Emulsified Frames: I watched Primer yesterday. Excellent. It's a "realistic" time travel movie that looks more at if someone figured out the technology how they would handle it and what the limitations would be. These guys are fucking around in their garage trying to invent something that will get them contracted jobs and they basically make a box that can output more power than it takes in and power itself for brief periods of time when it should have no energy intake. They realize the only variable that could be generating the problems they have is time and it goes on from there. The acting wasn't the best, it was fairly low-budget, but it was fairly intelligent and the limitations they proposed took me a bit to grasp, which I took as an appreciated change of pace.
Harmonics: Wolf Parade is phenomenal. Not as good as the Youth Group disc but a very decent band. I finally listened to Paramore too and it's good. I really want this band to call themsevles Fall Out Girl or something to that effect because they aren't doing anything terribly original and it's an obvious influence- but eh, it's on par with a lot of the pop-punk bands I have CD's for.
