3 AM last night I decided it would be a brilliant idea to drive to my parents house and go to sleep, because if I made a plan to go in the morning I would oversleep and fail to see the point of it once I did wake up.

About 4 AM outside of Lake Mills I'm struggling to keep my eyes open when suddenly my car is struggling to keep moving. Never ran out of gas before, it was a very interesting experience. Coaxed it as far as I could and then walked 3 miles to the nearest exit and bought a gasoline container. Carried 2.5 gallons back 3 miles to my car. Filled it up. Nothing. Not a fucking thing. Walked BACK 3 miles to the gas station and found out I could pay $100 to get a jump from the local towing guy or I could bite the bullet and call my dad...

Bit the bullet, hung out for another hour drinking coffee at a Citgo "Restaurant" while the only girl working the place kept coming over to try and make casual (read: completely awkward) conversation. I'm surprised I didn't just respond "Not. Drunk. Enough." but eventually she seemed to get the hint and went across the room and, as far as I can tell, slept on one of the booth seats. My dad showed up and bailed me out and I drove the long way in to survey the Tornado Damage in Stoughton. Overall everything looks fine, but the places that did get hit don't exist anymore. Bizarre to just see barren concrete where there used to be a house.

Anyway: I always wondered what it would be like to walk in pitch black down a highway with no one around and no cell phone to help me out. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle.

On a side note I saw "Broken Flowers" yesterday. I don't know if I really care to see it again and I wasn't terribly impressed while watching it, but the more I think of it the better I think of it. It seems Jim Jarmusch is doing a film that could be a stereotypical Rushmore or Lost in Translation but instead is pointing out Life doesn't neatly order itself or impose "meaning" the way those films claim. It doesn't try to beat life lessons down your throat and the vignettes it presents are elusive, not obvious. It may require a second viewing on my part to see if it I like it more in this context, but I think most who see it are NOT going to enjoy it and I really don't blame them for it.

And even though "MySpace Blog: Out of Gas: The Movie" is technically and sequentially an accurate title I really was just referencing Clone High. I'd like to point that out. Abandoned Pools... hit it!
